Origin of Converse

History of the Converse Brand

The original model, designed in the early 20th century and loved for its simplicity, has remained almost identical to this day. In 1966, another classic model was introduced and is still produced today: the Chuck Taylor All Star. This model was the result of a collaboration between the footwear company and the athlete of the same name. Taylor made certain design changes in exchange for having the new model bear his name.

In 1974, after two decades of Rock and Roll that influenced fashion in the country, Converse underwent a renewal. The sneakers started being produced in various colors, and the iconic white circle with a blue star on the side was added, a feature that can still be found in some current models.

Curiosidades

Over the decades, Converse shoes have transitioned from being athletic footwear to becoming a symbol for stars of all kinds, from skaters to musicians. Figures like Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain have been seen wearing their Converse shoes on occasion.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Converse became a symbol of rebellion. It is not surprising considering that the founder himself opened his shoe factory with the desire to be independent from fashion trends and not do the same as other companies. It seems to have worked, as over 800 million pairs have been sold worldwide since their launch. In just one century, the brand has become an iconic global reference.
